Creativity has been a part of our world since the beginning of time; it all started with our marvelous Creator. Art is in the nature we see, the buildings that surround us, and in the mirror we look into. It's imperative to day-to-day life but also in the early development of children. Art gives children freedom to express themselves creatively, use their imagination, and appreciate the world around them. Along with creative expression, art activities have been proven to lower stress levels and calm the mind. Art Education at Saint Aloysius will not only teach your child brand new art techniques and the importance of art and the artists who have influenced the world we know today, but will also be a place where children can destress and most importantly have fun.
5th Grade (Expressionism): Students replicated their own version of Edvard Munch's "The Scream of Nature" using oil pastels and the technique of broad lines/strokes.
Students' goal in the 3rd-8th grade art classes will be to find their own artistic style by practicing different art techniques, learning about famous artists, and working with different mediums.
Artist from the past and present inform us and inspire us to try new things. Each month students will learn art fundamentals with the help of past and present artists. They will create projects using the artists' preferred technique and similar mediums. By studying different art techniques students will discover what style they prefer. Some may prefer painting like Van Gogh, sculpting like Michelangelo, or sketching like Da Vinci.
8th Grade (Pop Art): Students replicated popular candy logos using bold, solid paint colors to create the brands eye-catching design.
